EmpoweredUth, EduConnect
Our Journey:
From a Simple Idea to a Growing Community.
How a small reading group blossomed into a community-driven not-for-profit organization empowering young minds.
The Beginning…
A Simple Idea During Challenging Times
EmpoweredUth, EduConnect (EUEC) began during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2022, back in China. Our founder, Cindy Lin, was preparing to move to Canada during the summer when she noticed her younger sister struggling to learn English. Realizing that many other children were facing similar challenges, Cindy decided to take action.
She started The Reading Group (读书会), a free event aimed at helping children improve their English skills and develop a love for reading. This initiative brought together young learners, offering a space for them to connect, support each other, and grow academically in a challenging time.
Reading Together and Fundraising Efforts
The Reading Group was more than just a place to learn—it became a community. Together, the group read two beloved books, "Matilda" and "The Lemonade War," fostering a love for literature and discussion. Although the group was intended to be entirely free, Cindy saw an opportunity to make a broader impact. She began incorporating QR codes for donations during the sessions and explained how she wanted to support those in need.
Through this effort, the group managed to raise and donate 8,251.8 RMB to a leukemia patient, demonstrating the power of community and kindness. This success inspired Cindy to keep going and expand her efforts.
Continuing the Journey
Even after the initial Reading Group, Cindy continued to provide support by creating and posting free learning materials and resources to help kids continue their education. In August 2023, Cindy organized a virtual reading group session with her old students back in China. The two-week session not only reignited their love for learning but also raised 3,500 RMB. These funds laid the foundation for what would become a more structured and impactful organization.
Establishing EUEC
Driven by her desire to impact more people, Cindy knew it was time to formalize her efforts. In October 2023, she reached out to PCAS and was awarded $5,000 CAD in funding. This provided her with the resources to transform her vision into reality. With this support, Cindy officially established EmpoweredUth, EduConnect (EUEC). She came up with the organization’s name, designed the logo, and began organizing more events with friends who shared her passion for education and community-building.
Our Mission Today
Today, EUEC is built on the principles of empowerment, education, and community building. Our programs—ranging from High School Mentorship and Leadership Training to Holiday Events—are designed to inspire learning, foster growth, and create a lasting impact. With the continued support of our community, we aim to reach even more young people and help them achieve their full potential.
